Connally Unit Release Outcomes

John B. Connally Unit, code CY, is a Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institutions Division prison. It is not the Karnes County Jail. Prisoners may come from any Texas county, and a Karnes County resident can serve time at another TDCJ unit. The central state record, not the county sheriff, controls current location and state-prison release information.

A transfer to another TDCJ unit is not release. Actual departure from prison may lead to parole, mandatory supervision, another detainer, or discharge at sentence completion. Parole and mandatory supervision both can place a person in the community while the sentence remains active under TDCJ supervision. Discharge ordinarily marks the end of the sentence or supervision obligation. Keep those events distinct.

Confirm Connally Unit Release Status

The TDCJ Inmate Information Search is authoritative for a person currently incarcerated in TDCJ. Search by TDCJ or SID number when possible. If those identifiers are unknown, use first and last name, then compare age, race, sex, offense, sentence, and county of conviction. A current match naming Connally confirms imprisonment at the time of the update.

The search is not a complete historical database of released people. No match after an expected date does not prove release. A spelling error, identifier problem, system scope, or transfer issue can cause confusion. 1. Search by TDCJ or SID number and confirm the displayed identity.
2. Record the current facility, projected release date, parole eligibility date, and maximum sentence date exactly as shown.

Connally Release Date Fields

TDCJ commonly displays three future-facing date fields. Each answers a different question, and none alone proves that the person left Connally. Save the exact label and the lookup date because sentence calculations and case events can change.

A parole approval can include conditions and does not always yield an immediate gate date. A projected date may change, and release to another detainer may continue custody elsewhere. For actual post-event proof, request the TDCJ release or discharge field and confirm supervision with the Parole Division.

Connally Unit Prison Profile

TDCJ places the male state prison two miles south of Kenedy on Highway 181 to FM 632. The unit opened in July 1995 and lists a capacity of 2,496. It houses G1 through G5 custody, security detention, and mental-health custody levels. These facts describe the prison, not the number of Karnes County residents or annual releases.

Connally Pre-Release Program Context

The official directory specifically lists CHANGES/Pre-Release programming. That is a local feature of Connally Unit and can help explain preparation work before departure. It does not prove that any named person is enrolled, eligible for parole, approved for release, or assigned to a community placement.

Program participation and legal release status are separate records. TDCJ's projected and eligibility fields remain prospective, while the Board of Pardons and Paroles controls parole decisions and the Parole Division handles release processing and supervision. For ongoing supervision, use the TDCJ Parole Division. The unit itself is not the field supervision office. If a new arrest or revocation issue returns the person to custody, verify the new event rather than relying on the old Connally release date.

Connally Release Identity Controls

Common names create risk. Use at least two identifiers before connecting a record to a person: full name plus date of birth, TDCJ number, SID, offense, or conviction county. Save the source, search date, and exact status wording. If the public search and a later records response differ, ask TDCJ to explain the effective date of each entry.

A person can also leave Connally for an intermediate sanction, contracted setting, hospital, another TDCJ unit, or an outside detainer. The central record should show the relevant custody or destination category. Do not convert physical departure from the Kenedy unit into discharge without that state record.

Connally and Karnes Custody Split

Karnes County contains four distinct custody lanes. The county jail uses sheriff records and IVSS-Counties. Connally uses central TDCJ. The Commerce Street federal facility serves USMS, and KCIPC serves ICE. Matching the building name to its authority is the first control in any release search.

Connally's statewide population makes county court records an unreliable general search route. A case from another Texas county will not appear in Karnes County's local portal merely because the person served time near Kenedy. Use the conviction county shown by TDCJ for related state court records, and central TDCJ for the prison event.

Connally Historical Release Requests

A narrow TDCJ request should name the exact field sought: actual release date, release mechanism, destination category, parole or mandatory-supervision start, or final discharge date. Include the TDCJ or SID number whenever possible. If neither is known, provide the full name, exact date of birth, and conviction county. This reduces mistaken identity and helps TDCJ locate the right sentence record.

Ask for the release or discharge record rather than all institutional material. The current inmate search serves a different purpose and can stop returning a former prisoner. A saved prospective date is not a substitute for the historical event. When supervision continued, pair the TDCJ response with Parole Division confirmation so physical prison release is not confused with final discharge.
